 The
state of Gujarat, rightly called the jewel in the west and
known for its maritime past, the gateway for the Dutch and
the Portuguese who entered India. Known for its colourful
people
whose handicrafts are renowned all over India for their colourful
embroideries and hand woven work, Gujarat has something for
everyone. Visit Gujarat for a quite wildlife getaway in Gir
Forests, home to the Asiatic Lion, the great Indian bustard,
the wild ass, the black buck, rosy pink flamingoes and some
rare marine life. Or a busy hustle-bustle of industrial and
textile city of Ahmedabad. A fabulously enriching sightseeing
experience at some of the most importanttemples in India,
the 863 Cain Temple cluster in Palitana or a Hindu Temple
of Somnath by the sea shore, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of
Lord Shiva. Observe artistic trends revealing the soul of
the people and their lifestyles, converse with curious village
folk, buy beautiful handicrafts andornaments, even join in
occassional dance at village fairs and festivals. The colourful
kaleidoscope of Gujarat bedazzles, like a rainbow, for the
sheer pleasure of its experience. Gujarat's cultural mosaic
is unmatched in its richness and diversity. As they say in
Gujarat, "Padharo" or "Welcome!"
